PM Modi Applauds Consensus As G20 Leaders Condemn Terror And Call For Peace In Ukraine in the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration

As the participants at the G20 Summit came to an agreement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration as historic on Saturday.

The 34-page document asks for peace in Ukraine, denounces terrorists, discusses the climate crisis, and envisions economic and financial cooperation.

There were concerns over the united statement since certain members had significant disagreements, especially in relation to the Ukraine War. However, the release of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration is being hailed as a significant accomplishment of India’s presidency since it was able to bring opposing viewpoints together.

“History has been created with the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration,” Modi stated while reiterating the G20 document. We promise to work together for a better, more successful, and peaceful future because we are one in heart and agreement. My appreciation to all G20 partners for their assistance and support.

Modi had said earlier in the day that the member countries had reached an agreement over the joint statement, despite the fact that it was only made public in the evening. One of the key achievements of the G20 Summit and India’s G-20 Presidency was the release of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and the addition of the African Union (AU) as a permanent member.

Modi had earlier said, “I have wonderful news. Consensus has been established on the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit Declaration as a result of the diligent effort of our team. I suggest we adopt this leadership statement. I declare that I will accept this statement. I would want to thank my Sherpas, the ministers, who worked really hard to make this happen.

The Delhi Declaration requests global peace.
In the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, which Modi read aloud at the start of the second session of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, it was emphasized that the current moment should not be marked by conflict and that all countries should preserve the fundamentals of international law.

The G20 declarations also emphasized the value of diplomacy, open communication, and nonviolent dispute resolution. These aspects were referred to in the statement as crucial parts of global stability.

The Delhi Declaration gives high priority to the following key issues: fostering fair and sustainable economic growth, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), creating a green development agreement to ensure a sustainable future, modernizing multilateral institutions, and revitalizing the multilateral cooperation principles.

Ukraine and the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration
Modi’s position on the Ukraine War—that this is not the age of war and that hostilities must end—was underlined in the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.

The proclamation demanded that the Ukraine crisis be resolved in accordance with the rules and principles outlined in the UN charter.

The proclamation urged all nations to preserve “principles of international law, including territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and the multilateral system that safeguards peace and stability,” but did not specifically mention Russia in doing so.

“Diplomacy and conversation are essential, as are attempts to resolve crises and settle disputes peacefully. We will work together to address the negative effects of the conflict on the world economy and welcome any initiatives that are pertinent and helpful in promoting a comprehensive, just, and long-lasting peace in Ukraine that upholds all the UN Charter’s purposes and principles for the promotion of peaceful, amicable, and good neighborly relations among nations in the spirit of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” according to the statement.

One of the topics that put the member nations’ ability to agree at danger was the Ukraine War because of how the West and Russia and China see the conflict. The proclamation also discussed the negative effects of the fighting.

“We highlighted the human suffering and negative additional effects of the war in Ukraine on global food and energy security, supply chains, macro-financial stability, inflation, and growth,” the declarations said. “This has complicated the policy environment for countries, especially developing and least developed countries which are still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic disruption which has derailed progress towards the SDGs.” There were many opinions and evaluations of the circumstance.

G20 statement denounces terrorism
The G20 Delhi Declaration categorizes terrorism as one of the “gravest threats” to international peace and security and expressly condemns it in all of its forms.

“We condemn terrorism in all of its incarnations, including acts motivated by xenophobia, racism, and other kinds of intolerance, as well as acts committed in the name of religion or belief, while also acknowledging the dedication of all faiths to peace. It represents one of the gravest risks to global peace and security, according to the statement.

G20 countries demand an end to assaults on vital infrastructure
The G20 leaders encouraged Ukraine and Russia to stop any military strikes or damage of vital infrastructure while highlighting the need of ensuring food and energy security.

“We called for the cessation of military destruction or other attacks on relevant infrastructure,” the statement said. We also highlighted our grave worry about the detrimental effects that wars have on civilian security, aggravating socioeconomic fragilities and vulnerabilities already present and impeding an efficient humanitarian response.Diplomacy and conversation, as well as attempts to handle crises and resolve disputes peacefully, are essential.

Russia has faced criticism for hitting vital infrastructure like hospitals and power plants as well as human settlements like apartment complexes throughout the conflict.

The declaration stated that “We will work together to address the negative effects of the conflict on the world economy and welcome all pertinent and helpful initiatives that support a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine that will uphold all the purposes and principles of the UN Charter for the promotion of peaceful, friendly, and good neighborly relations among nations in the spirit of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.”
