Hyderabad: Techie nabbed after leaving one dead in drunk driving

One person was killed and ten more were wounded in five incidents that occurred in the early hours of Monday in the IT corridor within a one-kilometer length, all reportedly caused by a thirty-year-old software engineer who was driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the police, he was placed under arrest.

At roughly 12.45 in the morning, the accused, Kranthi Kumar, was traveling from Jubilee Hills to his home in Nizampet in a Volkswagen Polo. According to the authorities, he crashed his automobile into other cars and people on the way home from Mindspace Junction after becoming wasted at a Jubilee Hills club.

“We checked his blood alcohol content, and it showed 550 mg/dL while the permissible limit is only 30 mg/dL,” Raidurgam Ch Venkanna said.

The first accident was allegedly caused by Kranthi when he was driving close to Mindspace Junction and struck a vehicle that was damaged in the collision. After that, he continued driving in the direction of Biodiversity Junction, where he struck a motorbike and injured its riders.

The pedestrian was hit by the car when he was heading towards Shaikpet flyover and later died from his injuries, according to the police. Venkanna said, “The pedestrian’s identity is unknown, and the investigation is underway.”

After hitting another bike and injuring two more riders, Kranthi crashed into an autorickshaw, hurting three more riders. According to the authorities, the automobile only came to a stop after the front tires were damaged.

One of the bystanders saw Kranthi’s commotion and called 100 to alert the authorities. The SHO said, “Our night duty team arrived on the scene right away and arrested him even as he was trying to flee.” He has now been placed under arrest.

Ten people were hurt by Kranthi throughout the whole incident, according to the police. “A leg fracture was suffered by one of them, while the others only had minor injuries,” Venkanna said.

On suspicion of reckless driving, the Raidurgam police filed a complaint against Kumar under IPC Sections 304 Part II and 337.
