INDIA asks people to “restore democracy” and stages a unity demonstration in the capital

The opposition INDIA bloc’s supporters demonstrated a powerful display of solidarity and strength on Sunday at their “Save Democracy” event in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in reaction to the detention of Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal, the current chief minister of Delhi, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Hours after resigning as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, the latter was taken into custody.

Speakers at the protest criticized the BJP for detaining the two opposition leaders and urged the crowd to “vote out” the Narendra Modi administration in order to “restore democracy in the country.” Up to eighteen parties showed up for the event.

The whole Congress high brass, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, past presidents Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, attended the gathering, including Kejriwal’s wife Sunita and Soren’s wife Kalpana. However, Sonia Gandhi stayed off the platform, allowing Rahul and Priyanka to speak.

Among the first people to arrive at the location were Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT), CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja, CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, and Jharkhand Chief Minister Sharad Pawar. The gathering was also attended by National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, and Punjab Chief Minister and AAP leader Bhagwant Mann.

Derek O’Brien, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), represented the party in the Rajya Sabha, while veteran MP Tiruchi Siva represented the DMK.

Rahul said that by selecting umpires in advance of the legislative elections, the BJP was engaging in “match-fixing.” Because it meant removing two “key players” from the Opposition side before to the elections, he said that arresting Soren and Kejriwal amounted to match-fixing.

Rahul, who was red-flapping numerous Income Tax penalty notifications to the establishment party, said that the Congress, the nation’s biggest opposition party, had had all of its bank accounts stopped in the midst of an election. We have to send leaders to states, display posters, and launch a campaign, but all of our financial accounts have been closed. He questioned, “What kind of election is this?”

Rahul said that “the country would be finished” the day the BJP achieved its goal and accused the party of trying to amend the Constitution.

Congressman Kharge criticized the administration, stating that it was time to choose between “dictatorship and democracy.” Kharge called the alliance between the RSS and BJP “poison” that had “destroyed” the nation and he asked the opposition to “unite against them.”

In her first public speech, Sunita, the wife of Arvind Kejriwal, read out her husband’s message to the public along with his six promises, emphasizing that “tyranny won’t work and the Delhi Chief Minister could not be kept behind bars for long.”

Sunita addressed the assembly after reading Kejriwal’s statement from the Enforcement Directorate’s holding, saying, “The BJP is demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Kejriwal.” Must he step down? Is his arrest warranted? He is a lion, or “sher.” His incarceration won’t last for very long. This despotism is ineffective. My spouse is being showered with benefits.

Additionally, Sunita read Kejriwal’s apologies to the other leaders of the INDIA bloc for revealing her husband’s six promises without first obtaining permission from other alliance members. After delivering his assurances, she remarked on behalf of Kejriwal, “I hope you will not mind,” to the leaders of the opposition.

Taking the platform, former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh said that PM Modi had detained Kejriwal and Soren before of the Lok Sabha elections out of fear of losing. “Why are you afraid of the AAP if you are likely to win over 400 seats? You have imprisoned elected city managers. You are being criticized by everyone. The BJP would lose 400 seats rather than gain 400 if they must rely on the ED, CBI, and I-T to maintain their hold on power, according to Akhilesh.

Regarding the electoral bonds issue, Uddhav referred to the BJP as the “Bhrasht Janata Party” and said that the public had seen its true nature.

Invoking the “spread of hatred in the country,” Tejashwi said that “a brother is being made to fight a brother” under the Modi administration. “Modi came to power with a bang, and a massive mandate against him would be used to remove him from office,” he said.
