Phase 1 of the Polavaram project would get funding from the Centre totaling 12,911 crore

Phase 1 of the Polavaram Multipurpose Project has received funding from the Centre totaling 12,911 crore for Andhra Pradesh. The state administration, led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has long demanded funding for the project that is seen as AP’s lifeblood.

While state Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was visiting Polavaram to assess the status of the dam’s construction, the state administration made the Central government’s action public.

The Central Water Resources Department received a notice from the Union Finance Department’s Nirmala Sitharaman authorising $12,911.15 for the aforementioned project.

When the cofferdam was destroyed by floods in the Godavari river, the Union government decided to provide an extra 2,000 crore for the project’s development. The TDP regime is to blame, according to the present administration, for the coffer wall’s fragility.

Instead of using the 2013–2014 rates, the Finance Department has decided to authorise the funds for the project at the most recent rates. Due to the construction delay, the project cost has gone up. According to the state administration, the Centre has also eliminated department-specific limitations on bill payment.

Tuesday, the chief minister carried out an airborne assessment to inspect the upper and lower cofferdams’ construction as well as the damaged diaphragm wall. With 79.61 percent of the work on the irrigation project finished, tremendous progress has been accomplished.

He instructed authorities to create an intricate plan to build hotels, a bridge, and the other infrastructure to make the dam a major attraction since he saw Polavaram as a potential tourist destination in the future.
