India maintains its position as 40th in the 2023 Global Innovation Index

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index 2023 rankings, which were released on Thursday, India has maintained its 40th place out of 132 economies.

India has been moving up the Global Innovation Index (GII) during the last several years, moving from 81st in 2015 to 40th in 2023.

According to the Aayog, innovation has been at the vanguard of India’s fight against the unprecedented catastrophe brought on by the pandemic and is essential to fostering the nation’s resilience. This is reflected in the prime minister’s resounding demand for Atmanirbhar Bharat.

According to a government think tank, India’s enormous intellectual capital, a thriving startup environment, and the outstanding work done by public and commercial research groups are to thank for the continuous growth in the GII ranking.

The national innovation ecosystem has benefited greatly from the contributions of all government departments, including science and technology, biotechnology, space, atomic energy, and other departments like electronics and IT, telecommunications, agricultural research, education, and health research.

The Atal Innovation Mission has, above all, contributed significantly to the growth of the innovation ecosystem.

In order to maximize national efforts for introducing policy-led innovation to a variety of fields, including alternative energy sources, space exploration, biotechnology, and electric cars, Niti Aayog has been working.

Additionally, the Aayog has contributed to the growth of the innovation ecosystem in states and districts. The Niti Aayog has continuously focused on tracking and assessing India’s standing in international rankings, particularly in the GII.

Governments all across the globe may examine the innovation-driven social and economic developments in their nations using the GII. The GII has established itself through time as a tool for policymaking for many governments and assisted them in considering the status quo.

India’s transition to an innovation-driven economy has also been assisted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This year, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the CII, and Niti Aayog are holding the GII 2023 India Launch online on Friday.

Suman Bery, vice-chairman of Niti Aayog, Dr. VK Saraswat, member of Niti Aayog, BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO of Niti Aayog, and Daren Tang, director general of WIPO, will all be present at the inauguration event.
