Invited by India Following Khalistani Posters, Canadian Envoy Names Indian Diplomats

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the Canadian High Commissioner to India over Khalistani posters in Canada that displayed the names of Indian diplomats, according to the report.

Following the online distribution of Khalistani posters that identified Indian officials and dubbed the “promotional material” circulating before to a Khalistan protest as “unacceptable,” Canada had guaranteed India of the protection of its diplomats, according to a PTI report.

After India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar claimed that it has advised its allies, including Canada, the UK, and the US, not to provide room to “extremist Khalistani ideology” because it is “not good” for ties, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly made her comments.
Minister Joly emphasised that the nation upholds the Vienna Conventions.

She stated, “Canada takes very seriously its obligations under the Vienna Conventions regarding the safety of diplomats.”
“Canada remains in close contact with Indian officials in light of some of the promotional materials for a protest scheduled for July 8 that are circulating online, which are unacceptable,” she said.

Joly underlined as well that “a whole community or Canada [does not] speak for the actions of a few individuals.”

Jaishankar has said that the matter will be brought up with the authorities of that nation.

The “radical, extremist Khalistani ideology” is bad for India and its allies, including the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia, he said.

“We have previously asked our partner nations, such as Canada, the US, the UK, and Australia, where sometimes Khalistani actions take place, to deny them room. Because of their (Khalistanis’) crazy, extremist views, none of us, them, or our relationships would benefit, he allegedly remarked.

“With such governments, we will bring up the issue of posters. Given that it occurred two to three days ago, I believe it would have been completed by now.

Last month, when images of a tableau in Brampton that seemed to be celebrating the death of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi appeared on social media, India criticised Canada.

According to Jaishankar, India would have to react if the actions threaten its national security and integrity. Canada’s approach to the Khalistani problem looked to be limited by its “vote bank compulsions.”
