It’s too late to protest to the “tutari” sign now: head of the electoral commission

Mumbai: According to S. Chockalingam, state chief electoral officer of Maharashtra, the complaints about the free symbol trumpet, or “tutari” in Marathi, ought to have been raised before the election process started.
In response to questions about the NCP’s (SP)’s objections to the free symbol trumpet being given to a candidate in Baramati, Chokalingam said that the list of free symbols has been available on the EC website for a long time and that the Marathi translation of trumpet to “tutari” was completed ten years ago.

Action cannot be done unless an objection has been made prior to the start of the electoral process. At this point, nothing can be done, he said. When asked whether the phrase “Jai Bhavani” could be used in campaign materials, he said that it may be used during rallies. The Election Commission (EC) has ordered UBT Sena to remove the phrase from their election film, but they have refused. The Enforcement Commission (EC) has seized cash, alcohol, narcotics, precious metals, gifts, and other stuff worth Rs 472 crore from March 1 and till April 23. According to him, of this, Rs 34 crore was confiscated in Mumbai city, while Rs 230 crore was taken from Mumbai suburbs.
