JMM Will Begin Drive To Boost Membership For 2024 Lok Sabha Election

Prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) would undertake a push to recruit 50 lakh members, a top party official said on Tuesday.

The choice was made during the JMM central committee meeting on Tuesday, which also covered strengthening the party’s membership in the coalition working against the BJP.

The decision by the BJP central leadership to choose Babulal Marandi as its state party president was referred to by the meeting’s leaders as “the last nail in the coffin” of the saffron party in Jharkhand. Shibu Soren, the head of the JMM, presided over the meeting, which also included Chief Minister Hemant Soren, party MPs, MLAs, leaders, and staff.

Later, Hemant Soren, who is also the executive president of the JMM, informed the press that party officials and employees from various districts had been requested to carry out state government initiatives in remote parts of the state.

The present political climate in the nation and the party’s attempts to form a national-level coalition of opposition parties to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha election were discussed, according to JMM spokesman and central committee member Vinod Kumar Pande.

JMM was one of 14 anti-BJP groups that attended the conference that Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, called in Patna last month to develop a shared strategy for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for next year.

Along with starting a campaign to recruit 50 lakh members, discussions also focused on strengthening the party at the booth level. The plan for the Dumri assembly by-election and ways to increase the party’s standing within the greater opposition coalition were discussed. The best way to bring government initiatives to the doorsteps of the populace was also discussed, according to him.

Regarding JMM candidates for the Lok Sabha seats, no decision was made. The final decision about seat sharing will be made during the meeting of the allies, according to Pandey. He said that JMM is always prepared to run for office, whether it is in the upcoming December Lok Sabha or Assembly elections. JMM also expressed confidence in his ability to win the Dumri assembly by-election.

The Dumri by-poll date has not yet been made public. Following the passing of state minister Jagarnath Mahto in April, the position became vacant. Bebi Devi, the widow of Mahto, was sworn in on Monday as a minister in the Hemant Soren government.

According to Pandey, the saffron party may have difficulties as a result of Marandi’s selection as president of the BJP in Jharkhand since he has spent the last several years battling for his own political survival. In the 81-member house, the JMM has 30 MLAs, the Congress has 17, and the RJD has one. There are 26 MLAs from the BJP, the major opposition party.
