In a case of cheating, Coimbatore police detain Malayalam film producer Johny Sagariga

On Wednesday, Coimbatore police detained Malayalam film producer Johny Thomas, also known as Johny Sagariga, in relation to an alleged cheating case. In response to a complaint from Dwaraka Uthayashankar, a Coimbatore native who now lives in Canada, the City Crime Branch (CCB) of the Coimbatore City Police detained him.

On Tuesday night, Johny arrived at Nedumbassery airport to join a flight to Dubai and was first held by the Bureau of Immigration (BoI). After the Coimbatore Police issued a lookout notice in the cheating case, he was taken into custody by the BoI.

Later, Johny was turned over to the Coimbatore police team, who arrived at the airport early Wednesday morning.

Later on, Coimbatore was the location of the arrest, which was documented. In response to a charge that Johny and his son Ron Thomas had accepted Rs 2.75 crores from Uthayashankar as an investment to make the 2018 film Nonsense, Coimbatore police had opened a case against them in March. The sales happened in the years 2016 and 2017. Only a portion of the money was given back to the complaint when Johny and his son were requested to return it.

The production company Johny Sagariga has made a number of successful blockbusters. It has previously released CDs and audio cassettes including music from Malayalam movies.
