Kochi: After a section of the road caved, two workmen were rescued

At Ezhakkaranad near Piravom on Thursday, a section of the road collapsed in, rescuing two workers. Venu, 55, of Elappara, Idukki, and Rajan, 50, of Vannapuram, are the individuals who have been rescued.

Under the panchayat’s PMGSY project, Venu and Rajan were building a boundary wall to secure a side of a road near a river, according to representatives of the Fire and Rescue Service.

“At the roadside, a truckload of stone was unloaded in order to build the border wall. Digging the foundation hole for the boundary wall construction was being done by Venu and Rajan. The two were coated in mud when a side section of the road collapsed in on them at about ten in the morning, according to a Fire and Rescue Service department official.

The workers saved Venu initially. When authorities from the Piravom and Mulanthuruthy stations arrived later, they began working to save Rajan.
