Meet This Woman From Tamil Nadu Who Makes Her Living Driving Autorickshaws

Using an autorickshaw, a 50-year-old Tamil Nadu lady is changing the narrative and dispelling misconceptions. Sita, who is from Thanjavur, has always dreamed of becoming a driver. Her journey to become a licensed driver was fraught with difficulties. However, she didn’t get her license until 2002, when she started driving at the Periya Koil Auto Stand in Thanjavur.

She just spoke about her experiences operating an auto rickshaw. She is one of her five sisters that aspired to become successful in their careers. She was originally told that she could only get a driver’s license for a vehicle when she applied for her license in 2002. That’s why Sita battled the RTO to get the license she needed to drive an automobile.

“My family had a company, but we experienced significant losses. At this point, I made the decision to protect my family and began looking for work as an auto driver. My spouse was a wage laborer, and my relatives were in their third year of education,” she said.

She expressed the same determination to keep going and work as hard as she could to provide for her family’s necessities. Sita goes on to say that she has worked hard so far and has been able to address every issue that has come up. The folks who compliment her driving abilities the most are the ones that inspire her the most. “She has come a long way ahead because of their encouragement,” she adds.

In her own words, she exhorts all women to work very hard, take responsibility for their actions, and develop self-reliance.

A while earlier, a woman’s same experience went viral. In Kochi, a 51-year-old lady has been operating an autorickshaw for the last 19 years. She selected this career path, known as Jaya K, at a time when males predominated in this field. She talks about how traveling in an autorickshaw transformed her life and gave her security over money.
