Mehbooba Mufti, the former chief minister of J&K, files papers from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat and requests that voters not abstain from the election

Upon submitting her candidacy from the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat in Jammu & Kashmir, the erstwhile Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti urged the populace to cast their ballots on election day and dismantle the plots of those who advocated against voting.

“The polls cannot be boycotted.” I urge everyone residing in Jammu and Kashmir to abstain from voting. Boycotts are being encouraged, especially in South Kashmir. Soon after submitting her candidacy papers, Mehbooba spoke with reporters and said, “We have to expose these conspiracies.”

The third round of voting for this seat is set on May 7. Mehbooba and hundreds of her followers, waving party flags and screaming party slogans, gathered to the Anantnag Deputy Commissioner’s and the constituency’s returning officer’s offices to register her candidacy.

Mehbooba urged people not to abstain from the polls. She said that the purpose of these elections was to react to the activities of the BJP against the resources, identity, and dignity of Jammu and Kashmir.

To overthrow the BJP, she continued, the people must use their right to vote.

“Select the candidate you think will stand up for the rights of oppressed people. There are efforts to make Kashmiris into bound slaves and we are losing our land, resources, and employment. We will not, under any circumstances, allow this territory to be plundered, she continued.

Mehbooba said, “This time, people must vote carefully in favor of the candidates who can represent them and speak truth to power without fear or favoritism.”

She claimed that the election is about more than just party affiliations; it’s about turning Kashmir into what she called a “open prison.”
