Notes on campus: Khalsa College

Amritsar: National theater artist Vipin Kumar had a fruitful conversation with the postgraduate theater studies department at Khalsa College, Amritsar (KCA) on the occasion of World Theatre Day. The college alumnus Vipin was given the ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2023’. Mehal Singh, the principal, expressed his pride to the college community and those connected to the Punjabi theater.

Vipin engaged with theater studies students, imparting to them his invaluable expertise. Devender Singh, the registrar, gave the vote of gratitude. During the session, Professor Shabnam and Professor Amita Sharma, who coordinated the event, were also in attendance.

BBK DAV Women’s College

A mobile library display including works by Swami Vivekananda was organized by BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, in honor of the 125th anniversary of the Ramakrishna Mission. A sizable library of literature on subjects including yoga, meditation, focus, personality development, and anger control was displayed in the van. Students and staff members enthusiastically participated in the display, demonstrating their intense enthusiasm in the occasion. The show was opened by local committee chairman Sudarshan Kapoor and principal Pushpinder Walia. According to Principal Walia, these activities were crucial in helping kids develop a love of reading and a deeper appreciation of their Indian ancestry.

DAV University

A workshop showcasing the possibilities of the Internet of Things and its applications was organized by the DAV College, Amritsar Innovation Council and the PG Department of Computer Science and IT. Smart homes, intelligent transportation systems, industrial IoT, and IoT in healthcare were the subjects of discussion during the event. The three-day workshop’s main goal, according to principal Amardeep Gupta, was to demonstrate the enormous potential of IoT.

Professor Renu Sharma stated: “The development of sensor networks, which opened the door for revolutionary technology, is at the core of the origin of the Internet of Things.” The foundation for enabling the convergence of computing at the edge of the Internet of Things has been the development of communication protocols. Together with the evolution of the tower itself, 5G also brings with it an increase in the amount of data coming from various sources. IoT extends beyond the sphere of multimedia data transfer and includes sensor integration.

Amritsar Institute of Management

On April 6, the eighth annual convocation of IIM, Amritsar, will take place. Banwarilal Purohit, the governor of Punjab and administrator of Chandigarh, will be the event’s principal guest. The governor will give a special speech during the ceremony, and deserving pupils will receive awards for their accomplishments.

Women’s PCM SD College

Jalandhar: A tour to the Philatelic Museum at the General Post Office in Jalandhar was organized by the Department of Office Management and Secretarial Practices at Prem Chand Markanda SD College for women. The session was conducted by postal assistant Meenu Kalia and philatelists Rajiv Kohli and Sanjog Paharia. This workshop’s main goal was to teach students how to acquire and create stamps. They also received a quick overview of many national philatelic tournaments. The department’s head, Seema Tiwari, received appreciation from Principal Pooja Prashar for her efforts in putting the event together.

DAV University

Together with a radio host, the Women Empowerment and Grievance Redressal Cell of DAV College organized a campaign to raise awareness of women’s safety. The panel of speakers, which included psychologist Prabhleen and inspector Meena K. Pawar, discussed their individual experiences and gave the female students some basic self-defense advice. Convener of the cell Deepali Handa, Vice-Principal Archana Oberoi, and Principal Rajesh Kumar greeted the attendees and gave them each a planter and a souvenir. According to Inspector Pawar, girls and boys are on par. In order to keep themselves safe, she said, women should learn how to defend themselves. In her presentation on stress management, Prabhleen covered strategies for juggling work and family obligations.

Jyoti Shiv Public School

A special assembly and havan were held to ask for God’s blessings on the start of the new academic year. Instructors offered prayers to the goddess Saraswati, while Rekha sang hymns. The school flag was hoisted by Principal Parveen Saili, Vice-Principal Ramandeep, and Additional Vice-Principal Mamta Arora. 51 students were awarded a 100% attendance award for the prior session.

Doaba University

An event titled “Electronic Waste: A New Danger of the Age of Technology” was arranged by the Doaba College Department of Education and PG Department of CS and IT in collaboration with NGO Pahal. Bipin Suman served as the resource. Professor Sakshi of the Department of CS and IT, Dr. Avinash Chander, Head of the Department of Education, and Principal Pardeep Bhandari all extended him a hearty welcome. According to Principal Dr. Bhandari, e-waste has grown to be a significant issue in the modern day and is seriously damaging the environment. Suman gave an explanation of e-waste and its several origins. Hazardous and poisonous compounds including lead, cadmium, nickel, lithium, mercury, chromium, copper, etc. may be found in e-waste. The four Rs—refuse, reduce, repair, and recycle—were emphasized by him.
