PM Modi unveils the greatest food storage plan in the world and makes a compelling case for independence

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the value of cooperative institutions in the development of “Viksit Bharat” and urged them to support the objectives of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

The Prime Minister said, “Viksit Bharat is not possible without an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” as he officially launched and laid the groundwork for many significant cooperative sector projects.

He inaugurated 11 godowns in primary agricultural credit societies (PACS) across the same number of states, marking the beginning of the world’s biggest grain storage scheme in the cooperative sector, which required an investment of more than Rs 1.25 lakh crore.

Using storage as an example, he emphasized how cooperatives have the ability to use their collective power to address the individual problems of farmers.

PM Modi brought up the losses farmers face as a result of inadequate storage facilities and highlighted the world’s biggest storage plan—700 lakh metric tonnes—initiated by the government and scheduled to be finished in five years at an estimated cost of Rs 1.25 lakh crore.

He said that in addition to helping farmers get bank loans, it would allow them to keep their harvest and sell it when the time was appropriate.

Under the program, PM Modi also laid the cornerstone for 500 more PACS to be built around the nation as godowns and other agri-related infrastructure.

With cooperative efforts sponsored by NABARD and led by the National Cooperative growth Corporation, the program intends to seamlessly link PACS godowns with the foodgrain supply chain, bolstering food security and supporting economic growth in the nation.

At the event, Prime Minister Modi said, “Cooperative committees are now acting as common service centers in villages and providing hundreds of facilities,” adding that the development of technology will enable the services to be provided to farmers on a greater scale. He went on to say that it will provide young people in the communities new job options.

On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that new PACS regulations had been created by the Ministry of Cooperation, and that state governments had agreed and put them into effect, putting aside political differences.
