PM Modi virtually opens the integrated terminal building at Port Blair Airport

The new integrated terminal building (NITB) of the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was essentially opened today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


The Airports Authority of India (AAI) built the NITB for an estimated Rs707.73 crores because to the increase in passenger traffic.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation, inaugurated a monument of VD Savarkar there.

The new terminal building in detail
The recently constructed terminal building has a shell-like form that represents the natural surroundings of the islands.

The whole terminal, according to the authorities, would have 100% natural illumination for 12 hours each day, which will be made possible by skylights on the roof.

PM Modi shared some images of the terminal building on his official Twitter account on Monday.

The new terminal building will have a total built-up area of 40,837 square meters and the potential to accommodate 1,200 people during peak hours and around 40 lakh passengers yearly.

The three-story structure will include four conveyor belts, three passenger boarding bridges, and 28 check-in desks.
