Police in Lahaul and Spiti alert locals of cybercrimes

A warning about cybercriminals who have been preying on residents of the Spiti valley in the Lahaul and Spiti region has been issued by the Lahaul and Spiti police. Residents have been warned by the police not to reply to demands for money transfers made by unidentified callers.

In addition, the police have urged anybody who has paid such individuals to contact the cyberhelpline at 1930 right away.

According to Lahaul and Spiti Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Chaudhary, a few residents of the district’s Spiti region reported getting calls from unidentified numbers. It was discovered that a cyber-fraud group was making these calls in order to extort money from locals by posing as their children who were studying far from home.

The SP said, “Please do not send money to cyber fraudsters.”
