The Maharashtra government grants the excise department ₹5 crore to purchase breath analyzers, handycams, and binoculars

To enhance the efficiency of the State Excise Department, the government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore to buy devices like breath analyzers, binoculars, and handycams.

Government sources claim that the commissioner of the State Excise department submitted a request to the government for the acquisition of cutting-edge tools including density meters, binoculars, and handycams to strengthen the department’s capabilities and improve the effectiveness of criminal investigation.

“The matter of approving the said proposal was under the consideration of the government and the government has now given administrative approval for the purchase of the said equipment,” said an official.

The excise department has requested the procurement of 59 handycams, 30 binoculars, 89 density meter devices, and 188 breath analyzers, according to the sources. The equipment in question is expected to cost a total of Rs 5 crore.

Regarding Cost Estimate:

“The suggested purchase rates throughout the administrative approval process are approximations. As a result, rates must be decided upon at the conclusion of the procurement procedure. It would be the responsibility of the State Excise Commissioner to make sure that the stated price is neither more than what the supplier has offered elsewhere, nor is it cheaper than the market price. Care should be made to ensure that expenditures do not exceed the amount of the grant that has been sanctioned and for which administrative clearance has been obtained when making this kind of equipment purchase decision, the official said.

Enhancement of Excise Department Operations:

“The excise department’s operation will undoubtedly benefit from these purchases. Additionally, this will facilitate the efficient conduct of investigations and operations by the excise department. The bidding procedure will shortly start now that the funds have been allotted, the official said.

The excise department’s main responsibilities are to collect the excise levy on alcoholic goods and to control their commerce. This goal is accomplished by the efficient enforcement of the law through the discovery of criminal activity and the granting of different licenses for the production, possession, sale, transportation, import, and export of alcoholic goods.
