Protests against drugs and calls for a check on vendors

Jagtar Singh Sidhwan, the leader of the Punjab-based Nasha Virodhi Mission, conducted a day-long dharna in front of the District Administrative Complex (DAC) and chastised the government for failing to take appropriate action to curb the drug problem in the state, especially in the district’s border zone. Jagtar Singh said that because narcotics were now easily accessible and home delivery was an option in the neighborhood, he had begun speaking out against peddlers.

He said that both of his boys had developed drug addictions. He said that despite giving the police a list of drug dealers, nothing had been done with it. He said that his boys were pilfering household items and that the cops were standing by silently.

Upon being called, Preetinder Singh, DSP, Bhikhiwind, said that the police were making every effort to curb the drug problem in the region, arresting peddlers and seizing narcotics and other intoxicating materials. According to the DSP, Jagtar Singh’s accusations were personal in nature since his kids’ addictions caused problems in the family.
