SC orders ECI to look into EVM errors that benefited the BJP in Kerala’s simulated elections

The Election Commission of India (ECI) was ordered by the Supreme Court on Thursday to look into and investigate the claims made by one of the petitioners that during the mock polls in Kasaragod, Kerala, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) had mistakenly recorded votes in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a series of petitions asking for an order to cross-verify EVMs with VVPATs, Prashant Bhushan, the attorney for one of the petitioners, made charges that the bench of the supreme court ordered the ECI to look into and investigate.

The Supreme Court of India has requested that all EVM votes be 100% verified using VVPAT slips. SC requests ECI to describe the procedure.
A two-judge panel of the highest court, consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, questioned Maninder Singh (representing the ECI), requesting that he look into and investigate these claims.

Attorney Bhushan, representing one of the petitioners, referenced a report on Kerala’s mock election results that showed more votes for the BJP had been recorded. At least four electronic voting machines (EVMs) mistakenly reported votes in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, April 17, according to a media report.
