Punjab’s Congress screening committee will convene during the first week of April

The AICC-appointed screening committee for Punjab has set its meeting for the first week of April in response to the BJP’s announcement of six candidates for the seats in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar.

It is said that the Bhakta Charan Das-led screening committee has narrowed down the candidates to two or three for each seat. Before one candidate from each seat is given to the central election committee for final approval, there will be final deliberations. The results of the surveys were discussed at the screening committee’s prior sessions.

There may be two names in some instances. According to party sources, the Congress is anticipated to release the first list of candidates for Sangrur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur.

Ravneet Singh Bittu (Ludhiana), Sushil Kumar Rinku (Jalandhar), Hans Raj Hans (Faridkot), Taranjeet Singh Sandhu (Amritsar), Preneet Kaur (Patiala), and Dinesh Singh Babbu (Gurdaspur) are among the individuals whose identities have already been revealed by the BJP.

According to sources, the Congress had the choice between Manish Tewari and Bharat Bhushan Ashu to field a Hindu face from Ludhiana. Current MLAs Sukhjinder Randhawa and Barindermeet Pahra are formidable opponents for Gurdaspur, while the name of outgoing chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi is probably going to be revealed for Jalandhar.

The party will be searching for the best candidate, according to a senior source, with MP GS Aujla and former minister OP Soni competing for the Amritsar seat. GS Aujla (Amritsar), Jasbir Singh Gill (Khadoor Sahib), Muhammad Sadiq (Faridkot), Manish Tewari (Anandpur Sahib), and Dr. Amar Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib) are the party’s current five MPs. Ludhiana native Ravneet Bittu has already joined the BJP.
