Selfie Rescue: Maharashtra Railway Police Solve Mystery of Death After Passenger Films Thief

The police in Kalyan, Maharashtra, were able to uncover the mystery surrounding a man’s death thanks to a selfie taken by a train passenger. On the video he was recording, a robber named Akash Jadhav attempted to take the passenger’s phone out of his hand as the train was moving.

The robber tried to take the passenger’s phone as Zahid Zaidi was filming a self-portrait. Despite Jadhav’s failure, Zaidi managed to get his face on camera, according to an NDTV report.

Zaidi uploaded the video on social media, where it went viral and attracted the attention of Kalyan Railway authorities, in an attempt to get assistance from the authorities. The police then took Jadhav into custody.

“We detained a suspect on Tuesday who had previous complaints in Thane filed against him. According to reports, Pandharinath Kande, a railway police officer, “we recovered a second mobile phone from him.” Jadhav was questioned on the source of the phone.

Police learned about the owner, Prabhas Bhange, only after the phone was turned on. He was a Pune resident and bank employee who had returned home for Holi. At midnight on March 25, Bhange lost his life when he fell off a moving train at the Vitthalwadi railway station.

Up until this evidence surfaced, the authorities said they had no idea how Bhange fell from the speeding train. They stated that Jadhav had fallen from the train while attempting to get back the phone he had stolen from Bhange.

“He was in route to Pune from Kalyan. Jadhav grabbed his phone at Vitthalwadi station. Mr. Bhange attempted to exit the train in an attempt to retrieve his cell phone and perished, according to the official.

Akash Jadhav is the defendant in a case that has been filed.
