Shah claims there is a plot to split Manipur at a rally in Imphal

On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that there was a plot to change Manipur’s demographics, but the BJP will not stand by as the state breaks apart. He pledged that the BJP will win the state while speaking at an Imphal rally in support of Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh, the BJP’s candidate for Inner Manipur.

Everywhere it goes, the Congress speaks about division. It divided the nation. The Congress party continues to advocate for dividing India into north and south regions. It has formulated a plan to partition Manipur. However, let me assure you that Manipur will not be split up,” Shah said to the assembly.

“I am aware that there is a plot underway to use infiltration (illegal migration) to change the little state’s demographics. The Free Movement Regime (between India and Myanmar) was abused to smuggle drugs. We’ve given it up. We made the decision to fence off the Myanmar

border, and the project has started. Manipur will be secured, he said. He said that the restoration of peace in the state via dialogue with all facets of society will be the top goal of the Modi administration, alluding to the ethnic conflict between the Meiteis and Kukis.

“In Manipur, nothing occurred for six years. And then there was bloodshed. I want the valley and the hills to know that bringing about peace would be Modi ji’s top focus in the days ahead. Manipur cannot be broken apart, no matter how hard someone tries. Speaking with both groups, the Modi administration is dedicated to bringing about peace, according to Shah.

Claiming that since taking office, Modi has made 70 trips to the Northeast, he claimed the Congress is unaware that these tiny states constitute the essence of India.

He said that the Ibobi Singh-led former Congress administration had staged encounters with “hundreds of people” and that bandhs and blockades were frequent in Manipur during that time.

Shah said that “a total of 750 people were killed in the Naga-Kuki conflict, 100 in the Meitei-Pangal conflict, and 325 in the Kuki-Paite conflict.”

“Modi ji will become prime minister for a third time with this election. Who is with whom will be revealed by the Manipur votes. The Congress and the BJP are not running in this election. It is between those who advocate splitting Manipur and others who have managed to keep the state together, according to Shah.

SC rejects petition on displaced people’s ability to vote

In a Monday order, the Supreme Court declined to consider a plea asking the government, the Election Commission (EC), to make sure that the approximately 18,000 people who have been displaced as a result of ethnic violence in Manipur are allowed to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. One Naulak Khamsuanthang filed the petition in opposition to the EC. A three-judge panel declined to consider Khamsuanthang’s argument. The top court said that interfering “would cause substantial impediments in the conduct of general elections of Lok Sabha for Manipur, particularly at this belated stage.”
