Guardiola says Man City is as hungry for a championship as its rivals

Pep Guardiola asserts that Manchester City has the same ardor to win the Premier League trophy as their opponents, but he also cautions that the champions may still need to win in order to hold onto their championship.

For yet, the week has been uneventful for City’s competitors. On Tuesday, Arsenal easily defeated Chelsea 5-0, and on Wednesday, Liverpool unexpectedly lost 2-0 to Everton in the Merseyside derby.

With two games remaining, City is very much in control of the championship race, even if those results have put the Gunners four points ahead of City and Liverpool ahead of the champions by one.

They play Nottingham Forest on Sunday after going to Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday, and Guardiola still believes that even the smallest mistake might have serious consequences.

Guardiola said, “Yes, definitely,” when asked whether City had to win its next six games to win the championship. Given that they lost to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa last week, they gave us a chance.

“But even if we were aware of what needed to be done before those matches, we still need to win them all in order to hold onto the championship in the end.

“Not much changes. The truth is that nothing has changed since we previously learned what needed to be done.”

After winning the championship in five of the seven seasons that City has played under Guardiola, the question of whether they are as driven as their opponents to win the championship was posed.

“I would not be here [if not],” he said. There are a ton of games, and it would not be feasible [without the desire] to be in this position given what we have done in the past.

“We are aware of the great difficulty, and we anticipate that it will stay challenging due to the next difficult games. We know that it will be very difficult to win the championship again if we lose, so we take each game as it comes.

“Last Saturday demonstrated our many challenges, particularly with regard to our timetable and recuperation period after the match against [Real] Madrid. The athletes were amazing.”

Following Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Chelsea, Guardiola took aim at the hectic schedule, expressing his inability to comprehend how his players had managed to perform only three days after losing to Madrid on penalties.

Guardiola was questioned about whether top teams had the right to complain while planning lucrative preseason trips around the world in response to those remarks, which reignited discussions over the football schedule.

Indeed, he said, “but we have to do it.” “The club has supporters worldwide who come to see us play, and we have to pay the manager’s and players’ wages. They provide us with revenue.

“We must acquire resources, even if it’s not simple. I wish I could tell you to stay here and practice instead of traveling to play on another continent and taking another week off. However, we must comprehend the club.

“It goes beyond Man City. For any club to remain viable, those monetary resources are necessary. Since we’ve been winning a lot for a long time, we have a large following. For this reason, you must act and adjust as needed.

However, it isn’t the reason [he complained] was upset. The very tight timeline is the cause. I apologize, but it’s not.
