The nation has recorded two new Covid fatalities

The ministry’s statistics updated at 8 am shows that two fresh fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, one from Karnataka and one from Kerala.

Up until December 5, 2023, the number of daily cases had fallen to double digits; however, with the introduction of a new variation and the occurrence of cold weather, they started to rise once again.

On December 31, 2023, 841 new cases were recorded in a single day, accounting for 0.2% of the peak instances reported in May 2021, according to government sources.

In all, there are now 92% of active cases that are being treated at home by specialists.

“The currently available data suggests that the JN.1 variant is neither leading to an exponential rise in new cases nor a surge in hospitalisation and mortality,” according to the sources.

Three waves of COVID-19 have hit India in the past; the Delta wave, which is expected to peak in April–June 2021, is known to have the highest daily rate of new cases and fatalities.

On May 7, 2021, the number of new cases and fatalities was 4,14,188, the highest ever.

Over 4.5 crore people have been infected and over 5.3 lakh people have perished nationwide as a result of the epidemic since it started in early 2020.

According to the ministry’s website, nearly 4.4 crore individuals have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent.

As to the website, the nation has given 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccination so far.
