Yoshihide Suga, a former prime minister of Japan, makes a pitch for improving the business climate for Japanese companies in India

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said on Thursday that he would advocate for strengthening the economic climate in India for enterprises from his nation before meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

Modi and Suga were supposed to speak later in the day.

In a speech at a FICCI-sponsored event, Yoshihide said, “I will express to His Excellency (PM Modi) the request we have received from the business leaders who are accompanying us this time and are willing to enhance the environment for Japanese firms to conduct business in India.

Speaking at another CII-organized event, the former Japanese prime minister promised to keep enticing his country’s private sector to make investments in India.

I would want to urge Prime Minister Modi to enhance the business climate in India during our discussion, he said.

He said that Japan fully concurs with both the public and commercial sectors about the significance of enhancing ties with India.

“Last year, the Japanese government set a goal of 5 trillion yen in public and private investment and loans to India over the next five years to deepen economic ties,” added Suga.
