An ex-president of Pakistan pokes fun at’mentally fatigued’ Ishan Kishan, saying, “This Is National Duty, You Can’t…”

Using mental exhaustion as an excuse, former Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal questioned the choice of India’s young player Ishan Kishan to take a sabbatical from cricket. In December 2023, Kishan withdrew from the India team for the Test series against South Africa. Then, for the remainder of the T20I series against Afghanistan, the wicketkeeper-batter was benched. The player will now need to play local cricket to regain his place in the team, according to India head coach Rahul Dravid, who addressed the matter.

In the first two Test matches against England, Kishan was left out of the Indian team, which included youthful Dhruv Jurel and KS Bharat as the wicketkeepers.

Kishan was criticized by Akmal for taking a sabbatical so early in his career, and he brought up the fact that other cricketers, like as Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, also experience mental exhaustion.

“Ishan Kishan’s departure from the South African Test team has been discussed as a means of addressing mental exhaustion. What kind of mental exhaustion is possible at this early point in your career? Players with similar tiredness issues as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are on this squad. They participate in international competitions, like as Test matches and the IPL. Have never heard of gamers taking a pause for this reason on YouTube,” Akmal said.

Kishan’s choice to take a break is “beyond his understanding,” Akmal said, emphasizing that young athletes shouldn’t place such expectations on themselves at such an early stage of their careers.

You are reserving yourself for the IPL’s two months. Being a member of the Indian squad is a great deal, thus I don’t comprehend this justification. I believe that by excluding Ishan Kishan from this squad, the selecting committee has done a fantastic job. After giving him some time to relax, let him play cricket at home. This should serve as a warning to players that mental exhaustion prevents them from asking for a break anytime they like. You cannot simply ask for a break from your patriotic duty like that,” he said.
