India wins a record 11 consecutive test series at home on this day in 2019

The Indian Test squad, under by Virat Kohli, proved unbeatable in their home country in 2019. One history was written during that time period as a result of a Test series victory against South Africa. On October 22, 2004, India defeated the Proteas in Ranchi and went on to win 11 straight home series. It aided Kohli and company in breaking Australia’s previous record of 10 consecutive home series victories.

The trip was never enjoyable for the tourists, with the exception of the first innings of the first Test at Visakhapatnam. With the win, India also achieved their first-ever 3-0 whitewash in front of the home audience against the SENA nation.

The third Test, when the hosts beat South Africa by an innings and 202 runs, was masterminded by Rohit Sharma. In the first innings, the Indian team’s opener produced a stunning 212-run performance. India amassed 497 runs thanks to Rohit’s maiden double-hundred score in a Test before declaring their innings with one wicket remaining.

Ajinkya Rahane provided assistance to Rohit and displayed impeccable class throughout his 192-ball innings. The right-handed batsman added 115 runs to the enormous total by smashing 17 boundaries and one maximum.

Only Ravindra Jadeja stood out for India with the bat in addition to these two. The other Indian hitters were fairly pale when the southpaw batted fifty. George Linde, a spinner, led the South African bowling assault and took four wickets. With the new ball, Kagiso Rabada performed at his peak, taking three victims.

On the Ranchi track, every Indian bowler gave it their all. To end South Africa’s innings at 162 runs, Umesh Yadav claimed two wickets, while Mohammad Shami, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed two wickets. India forced the second straight follow-on in the series because of their outstanding bowling.

Even though almost two sessions were canceled due to bad weather, the game lasted close to four days. India finished bowling out South Africa’s second innings on Day 5 in only 12 balls. The team of Faf du Plessis was bowled out for 133 runs, one of their greatest losses ever.

During South Africa’s second innings, Shami assumed control. The Indian bowler took four wickets after tearing through the opposition’s top order. Umesh Yadav kept up his ferocious pace and added two more victims to his list of targets. The pacer team took 12 of South Africa’s 20 wickets in both innings on the third day. Nadeem also cast a magical spell that resulted in him taking two wickets. One apiece was taken by the other two Indian spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja.

Prior to winning the Ranchi Test, India defeated South Africa in the first two Tests by scores of 203 runs in Visakhapatnam and 137 runs in Pune.
