Bundesliga: Heidenheim holds Borussia Dortmund to a 2-2 draw

On Friday, Niclas Fullkrug made his debut for Borussia Dortmund, but he was unable to stop the squad from blowing a two-goal advantage as promoted Heidenheim rallied to draw 2-2 and earn its first Bundesliga point.

“To take a point, Heidenheim in Dortmund, it’s mega,” the visiting coach, Frank Schmidt, remarked. “Two-nil down after 14 minutes and then.”

At the end of the game, unhappy that their team had missed more opportunities in an error-filled performance, Dortmund supporters booed at their players. Following a lucky victory against Cologne to start the season, Dortmund has now drawn two games in a row.

Edin Terzi, the coach of Dortmund, remarked, “It’s difficult to explain.” “We absolutely relinquished control of the game… You must conclude that we were ultimately victorious over ourselves.

When he replaced Sébastien Haller in the 78th minute, Germany striker Füllkrug, who came from league rival Werder Bremen on Thursday, made his debut.

Haller had just awarded Jan-Niklas Beste a penalty for a foul, but Dortmund was pleased when a VAR review determined that Beste was offside.

Tobias Reichel, the referee, reevaluated the situation a few minutes later and found that Haller had possession of the ball and had played Beste into the box before fouling him. Haller, who was at this point on the substitutes’ bench, was given a booking by Reichel, and Heidenheim was given a penalties, which was properly converted by Tim Kleindienst in the 83rd minute.

Dortmund got off to a strong start in the seventh minute when Julian Brandt twisted and shot in off the underside of the crossbar. In the fourteenth minute, Emre Can converted a penalty to make it 2-0.

The visitors rightfully got one back via Eren Dinkçi in the 61st minute following a mistake from Dortmund’s Marius Wolf, but Dortmund failed to capitalize on its advantage. Dinkçi raised his head before firing a pinpoint shot inside the right post.

Before Felix Nmecha hit the crossbar for Dortmund, Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi both squandered excellent opportunities.

Early in the second half, Heidenheim, who gained promotion for the first time last season, also had a goal disallowed for offside.
