England’s Advice from Sachin Tendulkar on How to Win the Third Ashes Test by Chasing 251

Despite the entirety of Day 3 at Headingley being wiped away by rain, the third Test of the Ashes 2023 has been progressing at a breakneck speed. After resuming with a score of 116/4 from the previous night, Australia continued to lose wickets frequently, and it took a valiant 50 from Travis Head for them to reach 224 all out and give England a 251-run lead.

With two days left in the match, England is the favorite unless their batting collapses, as they were 27/0 in five overs when the play ended on Saturday.

The legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar seemed to be closely monitoring the events in Leeds and gave the Ben Stokes-led hosts some advise to “bat sensibly” while maintaining their optimistic attitude.

Tomorrow’s opening hour at Headingley will be crucial, Tendulkar said on Twitter.

“I believe the pitch is playing absolutely good,” he said, “and if England bat intelligently and are confident in their approach, they will get there. They will pursue the total if they are disciplined in their shot selection and have a good attitude.

With the series down 0-2 after two games, England decided to bowl first and, despite Mitchell Marsh’s aggressive century, they were able to keep Australia to 263 all out.

Australia might have been skittled for a considerably smaller total if it weren’t for Marsh’s outstanding run-a-ball 118.

After that, England was in trouble at 87/5 until Ben Stokes put together a few quick partnerships with the middle order and struck a valiant 80 off 108. They were finally dismissed for 237 runs, giving Australia a 26-run advantage.

Nasser Hussain, a former England captain, agreed with Tendulkar.

The fielding side may lose control very fast here, as we have already seen in another spectacular Headingley Test, Hussain wrote in his column for the Daily Mail. “We know England will remain positive, as we saw in the brief opening to their innings last night,” Hussain said.

He said, “The important thing now is for England to be optimistic but also a little bit wiser.
