Has Manchester United’s 2023–24 uniform leaked Alejandro Garnacho’s new shirt number?

On June 27, Manchester United unveiled their brand-new home uniform for the upcoming 2023–24 season, giving the strongest indication yet that they will be giving young sensation Alejandro Garnacho a new jersey number. On United’s official website, the newly created jersey was made available for purchase. Fans had the chance to put the name and number of their favorite players on the shirt’s back. However, Garnacho, who wore number 49 previous season, was not mentioned. The Argentine wonderkid is expected to replace number seven for the Red Devils in the near future.

The Manchester Evening News reported that United was thinking about giving Garnacho the No. 7 jersey. Cristiano Ronaldo once wore it, but it has been empty since the Portuguese star departed Old Trafford in November of last year.

Alejandro Garnacho has made another allusion to maybe getting Manchester United’s roster number 7 in the next campaign. On the club app, the 18-year-old posted a quiz about himself and said, “If you are a true fan of Garnacho, then you’ll score at least seven out of ten.” The letter included a wink emoji, which led to rumors that Garnacho might inherit the renowned jersey earned by luminaries like George Best and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alejandro Garnacho will remain at Manchester United until the summer of 2028 according to a new five-year contract he signed earlier in April. He has significantly improved under the direction of his employer Erik Ten Hag. Garnacho made 37 appearances in all competitions during his debut season at Old Trafford, scoring six goals and dishing out six assists.

Alejandro Garnacho wasn’t the only one who couldn’t order a Mason Greenwood 11 jersey; neither could United supporters. Due to a ban stemming from an alleged rape case, Greenwood has been absent from the squad since January of last year.

The new home uniform for Manchester United was designed by Adidas and pays homage to the city’s industrial background. The geometric patterns on the body of the uniform were inspired by the Lancashire rose and the bridge over the River Irwell. The recognizable red shirt has the Adidas three-stripe emblem in black, a crewneck collar with red, white, and black stripes, and black piping on the sides. Black socks with white and black stripes on the top will be worn with it.
