In regards to the Indian team, Simon Doull claims they play “stats-driven cricket” and that their lack of fearlessness is a problem

India will be preparing for the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023 at home and will be hoping to break their ICC trophy drought.

Despite having several well-known athletes and outstanding cricketers in the lineup throughout the years, the Men in Blue haven’t been successful on the international scene since 2013.

Under MS Dhoni’s guidance, they last took home the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, defeating the hosts England in the championship match.

Since winning the Champions Trophy, the Indian team has a track record of losing in the competition knockout round, missing out on the trophy many times.

According to Simon Doull, a former New Zealand fast bowler, Indian players haven’t truly committed to courageous cricket throughout the years because they are always concerned about what would be said or written if they fail.

Their problem, according to Doull on Sky Sports, is “fearless cricket.” They don’t play enough courageous cricket. They engage in statistics-driven cricket and often worry too much about their numbers. And it is the one aspect of their batting side about which I am worried.

They are very talented and have some of the greatest players in the world, if not the best. But playing brave cricket at the correct moment in the competition is what truly let them down in the previous World Cups, in my opinion.

The former New Zealand spinner said that the main reason why the big names are unable to express themselves on the big platform of the ICC tournaments may be due to their fear of criticism.

They avoid taking chances because they are too concerned about what may be said, what might be written, or what someone might inquire about their position on the team. That’s the one thing about which I’m worried, he continued.

Nasser Hussain, a former England captain, concurred with Doull and added that India would need to abandon their reckless strategy in knockout games.

“When you get to the knockout stage, they have to go above and beyond; they have to play some fearless cricket.” They are still need to play brave cricket, in my opinion, if they reach the semifinals and the pressure is on,” he remarked.

In his analysis of India’s team, he said that it is among the strongest going into the ODI World Cup at home.
