In the IPL 2024, how many wickets will Mitchell Starc take? Steve Smith’s audacious forecast

Steve Smith, an Australian cricketer and IPL 2024 commentary panelist, made a daring guess on how many wickets Mitchell Starc will take in the competition’s 17th year. By the conclusion of the season, Smith projected that Starc would have thirty wickets under his belt and that he would perform well for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Smith noted that Starc, his Australian partner, will have a strong opportunity to take wickets for his side during both the powerplay and the dying overs.

Both Dwayne Bravo and Harshal Patel hold the record for most wickets in one Indian Premier League season. Both Patel of the RCB in 2021 and Bravo of the CSK in the 2013 IPL season took 32 wickets in a single season to go down in history. The player after him is Kagiso Rabada, who took 30 wickets in a single season in the 2020 Indian Premier League for the Delhi Capitals. IPL 2024: Complete Reporting

“I believe he will take a large number of wickets; I assume he will take the new ball and bowl near the end, when he has excellent chances to do so. In response to a rapid-fire question, Smith said on ESPN Cricinfo, “I am going to say 30 wickets.”

IPL 2024: WILL STARC PROVE HIS PRICE TAG WORTH?
Starc, the big money guy, became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League history when KKR acquired him for Rs 24.75 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. He will be returning to the lucrative league after an eight-year absence.

Starc played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (now known as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in 2014 and 2015, taking 34 wickets in two seasons. He was signed by KKR in 2018 as well, however, he was forced to be cut from the team after missing the season with an injury.

This season, the Australian pacer will lead KKR’s bowling attack. During the Shreyas Iyer-led team’s warm-up matches, he seemed to be in excellent form.

On Saturday, March 23, KKR will play their season opener against the SunRisers Hyderabad at Kolkata’s storied Eden Garden Stadium.
