Punjab championship trials are held by Hockey Ludhiana

On Sunday, Hockey Ludhiana held tryouts at the Prithipal Singh Astroturf Stadium on the campus of Punjab Agricultural University in order to choose the Ludhiana boys’ and girls’ U-19 and U-25 players. The purpose of these tryouts was to choose the Ludhiana teams for the Punjab State Hockey Championship, which is scheduled for April 25–28 at Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.

According to Tejdeep Singh Bhalla, the organizing secretary of Hockey Ludhiana, around fifty candidates in the boys’ division in both age categories showed up for trials. They were told to attend a two-day coaching session on April 23 and 24 before the district teams were finalized. While Hockey Punjab finalized the roster for the ladies’ U-19 squad for the next competition,.

He said that because there was not a single candidate in this category, Ludhiana would not have its ladies U-25 team in this event.

The selection panel included former Olympian Hardeep Singh Grewal, Dronacharya awardee Baldev Singh, Col. JS Gill, Gurtej Singh (hockey coach at PAU), Sukhwinder Sukhi (coach at Malwa Hockey Academy), and senior hockey coach Arunjit Kaur from the Punjab Sports Department, according to Ajay Pal Singh Punia, honorary general secretary of Hockey Ludhiana.
