Report: Olivier Giroud Is Getting Nearer To Signing With Los Angeles FC, An MLS Team

One particular Frenchman named Kylian Mbappe is expected to make headlines during the next summer transfer window. Mbappe has already informed PSG that he will not be signing a contract extension after this season. It is certain that he will go as a free agent, with Real Madrid seeming to be his most probable destination.

But Olivier Giroud, Mbappe’s partner on the national team, may be leaving Europe at the conclusion of the season to join Major League Soccer (MLS).

Currently under contract, Olivier Giroud joined AC Milan, a dominant team in Serie A, in 2021 after joining Chelsea for free. The Frenchman has put off any negotiations about extending his stay at Milan until next summer, when his contract at the San Siro expires.

But now that he’s finalizing his contract with MLS team Los Angeles FC, the renowned French striker may be departing European sport at the conclusion of this season.

It is anticipated that Olivier Giroud will join LAFC since his contract with AC Milan ends this summer. He would join LAFC after Euro 2024, which is scheduled for June 14–July 14. The Major League Soccer summer transfer market opens on July 18.

The agreement’s guaranteed component is reportedly good for 18 months, or until the 2025 MLS season. LAFC has the exclusive right to sign him before any other MLS club, as they possess his MLS discovery rights.

Since joining AC Milan in 2021, Olivier Giroud has been a key player for the Rossoneri. The former striker for Arsenal has 46 goals in 121 appearances, and he played a key role in the team winning the Scudetto in 2021–2022. Giroud is averaging a goal or assist every 92.5 minutes this season, with 12 goals and 8 assists in the league.

Olivier Giroud’s career is primarily remembered for the 253 games he played, 105 goals he scored, and 41 assists he supplied while at Arsenal. He had success with Montpellier, leading them to an unexpected league victory in 2011–12. He also won the Champions League and Europa League in his four seasons with Chelsea.

Regarding the international scene, the 37-year-old helped France get to the 2018 and 2022 World Cup finals. France beat Croatia in the 2018 championship game, but they were eliminated on penalties by Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the 2022 final.

Recently, Olivier Giroud played in an international friendly against Chile and Germany. The French striker is the all-time leading goal scorer for Les Bleus, with 56 goals in 130 appearances for his nation.
