Spanish Powerhouse and Arsenal Will Compete for Joao Cancelo’s Services, According to a Report

According to reports, Arsenal will compete with another elite team to sign Joao Cancelo. Last season, Manchester City loaned the Portuguese side-back to Bayern Munich as Pep Guardiola routinely neglected him in City’s starting lineup. However, the £60 million option for a permanent signing of Cancelo is not being exercised by the German club. The football player will rejoin the Premier League team in this scenario. Expert on the transfer market Fabrizio Romano informed GiveMeSport that City intends to offload Cancelo during the forthcoming summer transfer window. Along with Arsenal, Barcelona is looking for a right-back and has Cancello as a potential candidate. Barça are seriously considering Cancelo, Romano stated.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, might be a barrier for Arsenal. It won’t matter since, according to writer Gianluca Di Marzio, Guardiola considers Mikel Arteta to be a “good friend” after spending a lot of time with him at the Etihad. Guardiola has already abandoned Joao Cancelo, despite the fact that the Portuguese international was a regular starter for City at the beginning of the season. Cancelo was able to show off his flexibility by often being utilized as a center-back while at City in addition to playing along the right side.

Last year, Arsenal acquired a few first-team players from Manchester City. Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, whose bases were moved from the Etihad to the Emirates, were crucial to Arsenal’s re-entry into the Champions League the following year. In the battle for the Premier League championship, though, the Gunners came up just short of Manchester City. The team led by Guardiola once again shown their dominance by winning their fifth trophy in the previous six years. City won the FA Cup final after winning the English championship, and they may win the Champions League final on June 11 to complete the trifecta.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, will attempt to reassemble the team before to his return to the European Championship. Arsenal is keeping an eye on IIkay Gundogan, a midfielder for Manchester City, in addition to Joao Cancelo. When the transfer market opens, the German midfielder, who scored a brace in City’s 2-1 victory against Manchester United in the FA Cup final, might look for a new team. However, City is yet to make a formal announcement on Gundogan’s future at the Etihad.
