Tom Latham praises Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra for their reactions at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

With a crushing 9-wicket victory against world champions England on Thursday, New Zealand’s acting captain Tom Latham was thrilled to have discovered a new hero in Rachin Ravindra. After their bowlers set it up with pitiful performances, Devon Conway (152 not out) and 23-year-old Ravindra combined to finish a mauling of England.

“Clearly, Rachin and Devon make a terrific team. At the post-game awards ceremony, Latham observed, “To keep them to 280 from the 30-over mark forward was wonderful.

Latham said, “Probably the most pleasing thing was Devon and Rachin just reacted to what was being bowled,” adding that he was not through praising the century pair. Rachin was pleased with him because of his excellent performance. anticipating interacting with him tonight.

Latham was not surprised that New Zealand’s bowlers did a good job of holding a flashy England lineup to 282 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs after choosing to field after winning the toss. The warm-ups and the Bangladeshi men made for a fast build-up. We’ve played a little in these circumstances, and I felt we did a fantastic job of adapting.

The two seamers, Henners (Matt Henry) and Boulty (Trent Boult), performed well and got key wickets. It was great to limit them to 280,” Latham remarked.

Jos Buttler, captain of England and one of the best white-ball hitters in today’s game, has little reluctance in acknowledging that his team was outmatched.

“Discouraging day. Clearly outplayed by New Zealand, and a painful loss to accept. In a lengthy competition, it’s still one defeat.

We won’t be too high on the other side or too low on ourselves because I believe a lot of the men on our squad have played a lot of cricket, Buttler added.

“I thought we were well below par,” the Somersetneer said. We were going for around 330, and the pitch played a little bit better under the lights. We just weren’t clinical enough in our implementation. Even if some of the dismissals were good shots, they were poorly carried out.

“In my opinion, NZ played several excellent cricket strokes and received excellent value. Devon Conway scored fast despite not taking any particularly powerful shots. He and Rachin made a great team, and we were soundly defeated.

“I believe the surface skidded better under lights, but we played far below our best,” said the player.

Buttler referred to Test specialist Joe Root as their “best player for a long time.” Root led England in scoring with an 86-ball 77.

When asked whether Ben Stokes was injured, he said, “We’ll have to wait and see. Fingers crossed that he can begin exercising right away.

Conway required 121 balls to get his runs, while Man of the Match Ravindra just needed 96. He acknowledged his older partner for mentoring him in his first World Cup game.

“Occasionally it’s incredible, but it’s nice to have a wonderful day out. The bowlers did a good job of bowling, and they were fortunate to have Devon there. We are very, very good friends and I spend a lot of time with Devon,” he stated.

“Being able to do that in the middle is fantastic. I felt a bit more at ease, and I spoke to Dev a lot.

If you had asked us four to five years ago, we would have all known the kind of player Dev would develop into. The pitch was excellent and enjoyable to bat on, much as it was during the exhibition game in Hyderabad, said Ravindra.
