Suryakumar Yadav breaks Virat Kohli’s all-time T20I record for India vs. the West Indies

Although they may not have played to their full potential in the first two Twenty20 Internationals against the West Indies, side India truly came to play as Suryakumar Yadav produced a match-winning performance to lead his side to victory by 7 wickets. In the third T20I, “SKY” hit 83 runs off 44 balls, giving India hope in the five-match T20I series. Suryakumar Yadav, though, also set a singular record by being the quickest Indian to hit 100 sixes in T20 Internationals.

Suryakumar displayed his “A-game” throughout the game by scoring 83 runs in 44 balls, which included 10 fours and four maximums. Surya completed the milestone in 49 innings, making him the quickest Indian to do it. Evin Lewis of the West Indies is the player to reach 100 sixes the quickest.

In addition, Surya passed Shikhar Dhawan to become India’s fourth-highest run scorer in T20 Internationals. Surya has 1,780 runs at an average of 45.64 in 51 T20Is and 49 innings, with three centuries and 14 fifties. His previous best was 117. Surya too has a strike rate of more than 174.

Most sixes by Indians in T20Is:

Rohit Sharma (140 innings) hit 182 sixes.

Virat Kohli (107 innings) hit 117 sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav (49 innings) hit 101 sixes.

KL Rahul (68 innings) hit 99 sixes.

Yuvraj Singh (51 innings) hit 74 sixes.

Hardik Pandya (70 innings) hit 68 sixes.

Suresh Raina (66 innings) hit 58 sixes.

MS Dhoni (85 innings) hit 52 sixes.

Shikhar Dhawan (66 innings) hit 50 sixes.

When asked about his performance against the West Indies on Tuesday, Suryakumar said, “I don’t believe I did anything new; I’ve been batting the same way for the previous two years. It was necessary for me to go outside and express myself like I did in recent years since today was the same day. And when I batted, things continued coming into place.

“I never give my thoughts a chance to contemplate milestones. You have seen my innings; whether I am batting on 47 or 98, I always play to the needs of the team and hit a boundary or a six to mark a milestone. If it does, that’s great, but I want to play as needed by the squad.

In Florida, United States, the fourth and fifth T20Is will be contested.
