‘Warrior’ Ons Jabeur advances to the third round of the US Open after defeating Linda Noskova

Ons Jabeur, who finished second the previous year, had to put up a fight against Czech youngster Linda Noskova in order to get to the third round of the US Open on Thursday.

The fifth-seeded Tunisian, who is vying for her first Grand Slam victory, won a close first set before Noskova, then 18 years old, increased the pressure.

In the Adelaide semi-finals earlier this year, Noskova, who had won their only prior encounter, sailed to a 5-1 lead until Jabeur stormed back by winning three games in a row.

The big-hitting Noskova maintained her serve to equalize the match after Jabeur, who had breathing problems and other concerns in her last encounter, fell while chasing a low ball near the net.

Although the Tunisian acknowledged that she wasn’t quite 100%, she said that participating in the night session had helped her.

Jabeur said, “But absolutely, I’m taking things gradually. “Not really sluggish in this match, but I’ve got tomorrow off, so hopefully I’ll feel better.”

It might be challenging to feel ill during a competition, but the squad makes do. Let’s wait and see what happens.

Jabeur turned back a break point to go up 2-1 before taking control of a tight decider in the eighth game and winning on her fourth match point to book a date with another Czech, Marie Bouzkova.

I made an effort to maintain my composure, but the mob persisted. So once again, thank you,” Jabeur said to the crowd at Grandstand.

“This competition is absolutely exceptional. I believe I’ll use the word “warrior” as a metaphor to ensure that the competition goes all the way to the conclusion.

KASATKINA RAISES UP AGAIN TO SUCCESS KENIN

To beat American Sofia Kenin and advance to the third round of the US Open, Russian Daria Kasatkina rallied.

After Kenin easily won the first set and gained a 3-1 lead in the second, the 13th seed seemed to be out of the tournament.

She then took control, breaking Kenin twice to tie the match at three sets apiece.

In a match that included a total of 14 breaks of serve, Kenin, a former Grand Slam winner who is now ranked 101 in the world, broke in the first game of the decisive but was broken immediately back.

As of right now, Kasatkina and Kenin have split their four contests.
