“We Discussed a Champion Mentality and Demonstrated It Tonight”: DC Captain Pant Is Overjoyed by Bowling Unit’s Superior Performance Against GT

The Delhi Capitals crushed the Gujarat Titans with a superb bowling display to dismiss Shubman Gill’s team for only 89 runs, which was then chased down in just 8.5 overs. It was an overwhelming victory for the Capitals.

The captain, Rishabh Pant, displayed exceptional brilliance behind the wickets, grabbing two catches and forcing two stumping dismissals to blow out GT and win Player of the Match. He also provided support to the bowling performance.

Pant expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in Ahmedabad at the post-match presentations, which is encouraging after a string of defeats. The captain summarized a few of the pregame talks in which they emphasized the need to have a winning mindset throughout in order to help them turn around.

“We discussed the mindset of the champion and our team demonstrated today that we are capable of playing like that. We are happy to see it, especially on the bowling front,” he said.

Even though they put up a dominant performance, Pant does not want the squad to get too excited about the victory. Instead, he believes that improving each player individually would help the team perform better as a whole. “One of the best performances, we can’t say much yet because it’s early in the tournament and we’re still improving individually,” he said.

In addition, he discussed his recovery mindset after a near-fatal vehicle accident that kept him out of commission for well over a year. “Coming in a better way was the only thought process I had before entering the field; that was also the only thought I had during my rehabilitation,” the Indian international said.

Following a few of defeats this season, their net run rate took a hit. As Pant disclosed, the goal for the chase was to reach the paltry target of 90 as soon as possible. “Let’s get it as early as possible, we lost a few run-rate points earlier and we probably covered it up,” he stated before to the pursuit.

Pant was pleased that his team could keep crushing the Titans on their own field. GT set the previous record for their lowest total ever in the exact same matchup from the previous season. With an even more impressive showing with the ball, DC was able to surpass that and bundle them out for their first double-digit score.

“We just love being in Ahmedabad, we love the stadium and the vibe here, and we’re looking forward to playing more matches here,” he said in closing. We just want to take each victory one at a time, appreciate it, and learn from it as we go.
