Held for extortion bid on former employer is a father-son pair

Ghaziabad: On Wednesday, a father-son team was taken into custody for reportedly attempting to blackmail the owner of a jewelry store in the city. Alam Gir (48) attempted to blackmail the dealer into paying back a loan he borrowed in 2022 by leaving a threat letter outside his workplace with his son Danish (23). The dealer fired Alam during the epidemic, according to the police, alleging losses.

Rajesh Goel, the proprietor of a jewelry store in Ghaziabad, allegedly got an extortion letter on April 19 from DCP Kunwar Gyananjay Singh.

The letter threatened to hurt his family or demanded payment of Rs 2 crore. Bhuwan Goel, the owner of SKA Diamond jewelry on Hapur Road and son of Rajesh, subsequently filed a complaint with the authorities, according to police.

A staff member resides on the first level of the building, while the store and its main office are situated on the ground floor.

“On April 19, at 8 a.m., while the employee was leaving for a temple, he saw a note written to Rajesh Goel outside the ground floor office door. When Rajesh received the letter he had placed inside the office, he was taken aback to see that it included a threat to his family’s safety in the event that he did not pay Rs 2 crore, according to DCP.

A formal complaint was filed under Section 386 of the IPC (extortion) against an unidentified individual. “We divided into five groups and went through hundreds of hours of CCTV. One of the videos showed Alam. He recognized him as his former worker when we showed the victim the video. Then the culprit was taken into custody, and DCP continued.

“Alam disclosed during interrogation that Goel dismissed him in 2020, citing COVID-19-related business losses.” In 2022, Alam obtained a loan from a bank and other sources to finance his daughter’s marriage. He has been having trouble paying back about Rs 10 lakh. Thus, he came up with a scheme to demand money from the victim,” he claimed.
