Lok Sabha Elections: Congress will run for 17 seats, leaving 63 in Uttar Pradesh and Akhilesh Yadav’s SP

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, allies in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, decided on Wednesday how many seats to share in Uttar Pradesh for the next Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled for April and May of this year.
While Congress is allocated 17 seats, the Samajwadi Party and its coalition allies will compete for 63 seats.

In response to questions about the agreement to share seats, Congressman Avinash Pande of Uttar Pradesh stated, “I am delighted to tell you that it has been decided that in Uttar Pradesh the INC will contest on 17 seats and the remaining 63 seats will have candidates of INDIA Alliance – from SP and other parties.”

Following the finalization of seat-sharing, Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party (SP), congratulated everyone and wished for a peaceful union. To preserve Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s Constitution, to put Lohia ji’s numerical sharing concept into practice, to promote equality by igniting socialist ideals, to secure the rights of 90% of PDAs (Backward, Dalit, and Adivasi), and – To advance the nation… let’s come together.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the leader of the Congress, is said to have been instrumental in mediating the seat-sharing agreement between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress. According to sources, Priyanka was the one who approached Akhilesh Yadav and kept Rahul Gandhi informed.

The Congress party first insisted on having the Moradabad seat separate from the other seats it want to run for, but in order to maintain the alliance’s unity, it relented on this demand after a while.

The Congress will compete in:
