Suicide Kills Third IIT Kanpur PhD Student in a Month

In her dorm room, a PhD candidate at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur committed herself. At the institution, 29-year-old Priyanka Jaiswal was pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering. The Times of India stated that she was discovered hanging in her dorm room. She entered the IIT around 20 days ago and was originally from Dumka in Jharkhand.

The forensic squad and a Kalyanpur police team raced to the scene. The college administration was notified in the morning by a fellow student that Priyanka’s corpse was hanging from the ceiling in her dorm room.

In the last month, IIT Kanpur has recorded three suicide cases.

A 34-year-old IIT Kanpur research researcher was discovered deceased in her dorm room on Tuesday by cleaning personnel last month. In her hostel room on the second floor, she hanged herself from the ceiling fan. PTI said that although the actual cause of death is uncertain, the first investigation seems to point to suicide. The housekeeping crew allegedly knocked on the scholar’s room and discovered her dead when they received no response. When a cleaning staff member peered inside the scholar’s room, they discovered she was hanging from the ceiling, according to the police.

The research scholar, who is originally from Cuttack in Odisha, attended IIT Kanpur to do her postdoctoral study. The scholar was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, IIT Kanpur.

An MTech student at the school was discovered hanging in his dorm room on January 10. Vikas Kumar Meena, the student, was “under stress” for a few days after failing his course, according to the authorities.
