The BHU council grants a gold award and 14 new scholarships

Varanasi: During its meeting on Tuesday, the academic council of Banaras Hindu University accepted the proposals to establish 14 new merit-cum-means scholarships as well as a Gold Medal.
The Akshaibar & Jogeshwari Giri Gold Medal for a second-year MBA student from the 2023–2024 academic year was authorized by the council. Donations are received by the institution to launch scholarships as part of its PRATIDANA program.

Vice-chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain updated the academic council members at Tuesday’s meeting on the newly established Project Monitoring Unit’s plans to enhance the university’s academic and research ecology. The project will begin with the colleges of arts and social sciences and be progressively extended, he said. The unit will endeavor to tackle difficulties negatively impacting the teaching-learning activities.
Awadh Raj Kumar is the beneficiary of a merit-cum-means scholarship that has been accepted for Central Hindu Girls School. A class 9 student’s scholarship will be awarded starting in the 2024–2025 academic year. The plans to expand the linked institutions’ offerings of courses and programs were also approved by the council.

The council also approved the nomination of ten distinguished academicians as its external members, including Prof. M. M. Chaturvedi (University of Delhi), Prof. Prithvish Nag (director, SHEPA), Prof. Manisha Proyam (NIEPA, Delhi), Prof. Suman Sharma (principal, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi), Prof. Dhananjay Singh (JNU), Prof. Neera Agnimitra (University of Delhi), Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi (vice-chancellor, Central Sanskrit University), Prof. Panchanan Mohanty (Nalanda University), Prof. Anup Thakar (director, Institute of Teaching & Research in Ayurveda), and Prof. B. R. Mittal (PGI, Chandigarh).
