Will Gandhis run in the Amethi and Raebareli Lok Sabha elections? Congressman AK Antony makes a significant remark

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Senior Congressman AK Antony made a suggestion on Wednesday that Priyanka or Rahul Gandhi, the previous president of the party, might run from an Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seat. In an interview with the media, former Union Minister Antony said that a Nehru family member will run from Uttar Pradesh.

“You await Amethi and Raebareli’s decisions,” Antony continued.
Notably, Amethi and Raebareili candidates have not yet been announced by the Congress party. Antony’s remarks coincided with the Congress’s tardiness in revealing their nominees for these two seats, which were once seen to be the Gandhi family’s strongholds. Since 2004, Sonia Gandhi has served as the Lok Sabha representative for Raebareli. She has since been assigned to the Upper House of Parliament, while her son Rahul Gandhi lost the most recent general election in Amethi to Smriti Irani of the BJP. Rahul Gandhi has just yet to submit his candidature from the Wayanad seat in Kerala.

About Robert Vadra, AK Antony
Antony said that Robert Vadra would not be a candidate when asked whether that would be the case. The nation’s secular parties, the former minister of defence said, had “full faith” in the Gandhi family.

If Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi are put up against Amethi-born Union Minister and BJP MP Smriti Irani, Amethi might be in for another exciting race. Irani beat Rahul in his stronghold in the 2019 general elections, garnering 55,120 votes. Irani had fallen short against Rahul in the 2014 elections, but over the following five years, she built her popularity locally and gave the Congress a shock with her historic victory.

“Amethi and Raebareli candidates will be announced at the appropriate time.”
Avinash Pandey, the Congress’ Uttar Pradesh in-charge, said on Monday, April 8, that the identities of the candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Amethi and Raebareli will be revealed at the “appropriate time,” notwithstanding the uncertainty surrounding them. The Congress has not yet announced its candidates for Amethi and Raebareli, despite calls from party members that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi be nominated for these seats. Rai, the head of the party’s state branch, has fervently supported the Gandhi siblings’ candidatures for the seats.

2024 Lok Sabha elections
