An Aussie man was tricked out of Rs 16 lakh by a con artist posing as a bank employee

Every day, there are several online frauds that make headlines on the internet. Something similar happened recently in Australia. On his phone, a guy saw a message that seemed to be an effort to breach his bank account. He only needed to hit “OK” to begin the process of getting a new card from the bank. The guy was wise. He got in touch with the bank right away to confirm. The bank responded by stating that this information is accurate. After receiving the promise, he clicked OK, but his account was instantly debited by Rs 16 lakh. The bank now claims that the probe will take 45 days to finish and refuses to acknowledge their role in it.

The Daily Mail said that this individual was a Melbourne resident who had an Ubank account. The guy hit “Ok” on the SMS and then got a call. The caller identified himself as a bank representative and requested more information. Along with asking what transactions he had made in the previous several days, he also wanted the last four digits on his card. The individual thought that he may really be a bank employee after hearing this. He next verified his identification by entering the PIN.

It was later discovered that this PIN served as his security code and that the fraudster had obtained it. The con artists conversed with the victim for thirty minutes. He insisted that his account was being looked at repeatedly. A sum of Rs 16 lakh was taken out of the individual’s account in the meantime.

The man’s sister said in a media interview that his brother spent thirty minutes on the phone, during which time Rs 16 lakh vanished. There were two transactions made. When he called the bank after this, they said there had been no error and that the inquiry would take 45 days.

A Lucknow family previously lost Rs 16 lakh after falling victim to an internet fraud. A Lucknow-based father and his two kids reportedly lost Rs 16 lakh when fraudsters got hold of a new SIM card for his misplaced phone number; they then filed a police case on the event.
