“No Couples Or Fried Food”: A British Woman Discusses Her Landlord’s Strange Rules

Good lodging is hard to get by anywhere in the globe, particularly in big cities. The primary causes of this are the growth in costs and the increase in the number of people leaving smaller cities. In these places, it’s difficult for most individuals to locate a decent place to rent. Even when someone finds a nice home to live on their own, the landlord may have requirements that must be satisfied. A comparable circumstance has occurred in Dalston, London, UK.

Before renting her house, a lady posted her landlord’s requirements online. People are responding to the strange circumstances that have gone popular on social media. The lady, Natty Kasambala, reportedly wanted to rent a property in London’s Dalston neighborhood. That’s when she came across an advertising in which the landlord made explicit the requirements that the renter had to meet. On the social networking site X (previously Twitter), she shared a screenshot of the terms.

The landlord said in the screenshot that they are trying to find a renter for their two-bedroom apartment. However, the renter will need to meet a few requirements. The prohibition against couples was the first requirement. They said that the apartment looks just like the photos. Large windows, hardwood flooring, and lofty ceilings abound. The home receives a lot of natural light, which some people find bothersome, was another point raised.

In addition, it was stated that the renter needed to be tidy, well-organized, and respectful. They need to have conveniently storable pans, culinary equipment, and dinnerware of their own. It was very forbidden to cook fried food in the kitchen. They said that anything that someone want to save in the restroom should be kept in a box since anything found lying about would be thrown away. They said that there will be smoking inside the residence by the landlord and her boyfriend.

“A real advertisement for a £1000 (Rs 1.5 lakh) room in Dalston,” Natty remarked as she shared the screenshot. When I read this, why does it seem like I’m suffocating in my own house?

The circumstances elicited a wide range of reactions from many individuals. “Hope someone moves in for a bit just to fry up the place and clutter it,” a person said. “It seems like they are too open about what they want,” a another user said.
