In New York City (NYC), an enigmatic green liquid was seen seeping out of drains and onto the streets. People were interested when several recordings of the event appeared on social media. Also, it provoked a rush of responses from online users. Some others said they believed it to be “radioactive material,” while others found solace in humor and made Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jokes.

A video that X user Dan Pantelo posted shows the green liquid engulfing a roadway in New York City. With a nod to the fictitious city from the Batman television series, “Can anybody explain this or are we just living in full-blown Gotham, rn?” the X user posted.

“So there’s literal green sludge bubbling up from the ground next to the World Trade Center right now,” wrote Pantelo’s caption for a subsequent photo that she uploaded.

What’s that enigmatic liquid?

According to the Independent, the slime-like material seeping into the streets is dye tracing. Authorities often utilize it to find leaks in dimly lit areas, such as subterranean pipelines or sewers.

The tweet went viral when it was shared on November 3. It has had about 25.7 million views to far, and the amount is continually rising. The post has received a ton of comments from users as well.
