The managing committee of the mosque, which was holding an auction to raise money for the construction of the mosque in Mallpora village of Sopore town, about 55 kilometers from Srinagar city, raised a modest amount of money—you read that right—about Rs 2.26 lakh.

The committee said that in order to generate funds for the construction of the mosque, they had received contributions in kind as well as cash. One particular elderly donor, who wished to remain anonymous, sent a newly hatched egg.

Locals informed news agency PTI that after each bidder purchased the egg, they paid the sum specified by the bidding and gave the egg back to the committee as a contribution in order to earn even more money.

We really want to finish building this mosque as soon as possible. Danish, a neighbor from the Warpora neighborhood, told PTI that since the mosque is intended to be enormous, a significant amount of money would also be required.

He went on, “It was just my passion and emotion towards the sacred space. I am not a rich man.”

Ahmad claimed that after being purchased by bids throughout many rounds of the auction, the egg brought in an incredible sum of money totaling Rs 2,26,350.
