While cleaning their bathroom, a couple in the UK finds a 700-year-old relic

When a couple was cleaning their toilet, they found a trapdoor that may have hidden a probable medieval artifact. Lincoln, England, residents Tracy and Rory Vorster were taken aback upon discovering an artifact estimated to be 700 years old. The Lincoln Civil Trust speculates that the peculiarly carved face on the newly found medieval gargoyle could be a component of an ornate drain or early urinal from the middle of the fourteenth century.

Rory Vorster, who lives in the center of Lincoln Cathedral, now thinks that there may be more of these relics hidden away in his home. The images of the ancient artifact are now going viral online. Behind a wooden trapdoor, it was molded on the bathroom floor.

Vorster discovered it as the couple was cleaning their home’s bathroom on Sunday, April 14. His sight shocked him beyond belief. According to the Daily Mail, Vorster exclaimed, “I’ve found a thing,” to his wife. When the wooden panel was removed, the couple found a stone slab with an unusual face carved on it. The face seems to resemble that of Lincoln Imp, a well-known sculpture on the Lincoln Cathedral, which is close to their home. As the couple’s house was first constructed by the College of Priests at the Cathedral, everything begins to make sense.

This medieval relic is said to have originated from a local tradition that describes two imps who were seen raging on the cathedral roof, one of which was turned to stone by an angel. Citing Lincoln’s rich cathedral history, Mrs. Vorster expressed her amazement at finding the historic artifact in her home. Tracy Vorster said, “You look at the outside of the house and that is historical enough, but to find something inside is amazing.” There will undoubtedly be more of these artifacts in the couple’s home.

Since the house’s walls are rather hollow overall, we assumed there could be more. We’re almost confident now,” Tracy said. The medieval relic’s pictures have gone viral.

The pair reportedly views this unexpected finding as a treasure. They’ve made the decision to adorn it and present it to their guests.
