Revanth Reddy’s day, 17 more to join the investigation, and more notices sent: the latest in the Amit Shah fake video case

According to sources in the Delhi police, at least 17 more people are expected to join the investigation into the deepfake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. The president of the Congress in Jharkhand and the head of social media have also been given notice in the case.

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) filed a complaint regarding Shah’s doctored video, which altered his statements about his commitment to eliminating Muslim quotas in Telangana based on religious grounds to appear as though he was supporting the elimination of all reservations. As a result, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police filed a FIR on Sunday.

A Congressman and an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) official were detained by Gujarat police on Tuesday for allegedly spreading the fake video.

The two individuals, named Satish Vansola of Palanpur in Banaskantha and Rakesh Baria of Limkheda town in Dahod district, were taken into custody by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell, according to a press statement from the police.

A preliminary investigation found that Baria has been the AAP’s Dahod district president for the last four years, while Vansola has been Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani’s personal assistant (PA) for the past six years.

A Youth Congress representative from the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh was also questioned by a squad from the special cell of the Delhi police.

After being questioned by the Delhi police team, Umashankar Patel, the district convenor of the Youth Congress IT Cell, said he had uploaded an altered version of the film that had been disseminated on social media. He said he didn’t know whether the video was real, but it was removed when someone warned him it would result in a lawsuit being brought against him.

An Assamese Congress official was taken into custody on Monday. According to reports, 31-year-old Reetam Singh, a native of Guwahati, was detained. He is reportedly connected to the Assam Congress and serves as the organization’s “War Room Coordinator.”

Revanth Reddy, the Congress politician and chief minister of Telangana, was also called by the national capital’s police and requested to appear on May 1 with his cell phone in front of the Delhi Police’s Cyber Unit.
